Christchurch Metro Cricket have requested that cricketers and supporters submit in support of lights at Hagley Park.

The Regenerate application is before the Minister, who is now calling for feedbackA Variation of Lease proposal has been lodged by The Trust with the Christchurch City Council and the public notification process commenced on Wednesday 16 October 2019.

Please take a few minutes to complete the feedback documents online.

In addition, the Trust and CCC are holding a tour of the Oval on 4 November at 6.30pm, to show where the lights will be situated, and all cricket supporters are welcome to attend this to show their support.

You might not be aware of this, but our Senior Teams are all participating in the Melhuish Shield. This is a competition where clubs nominate 2-team combinations who then gain points through their performances across the season. We actually won the Melhiush Shield

two seasons ago with a combination of Premier Women and 2B .

At the half-way point, our Premier Men/Women combo is in 6th place with 61 points, Championship/Division 1 are in 13th place with 56

points, Sunrisers/Chestfield Warriors are in 18th= with 45, Orcas/Presidents are in 25th= with 40 points and 2nd XI/Youth Women are in 30th= with 35 points. The Sydenham combo of Premiership and Div 6 Cardinals are leading on 75 points and there are 47 entries in all.

News from Christchurch Metro Cricket:

We have had significant rain since last Friday night on top of our wettest winter since 1975.

This has meant areas of outfield flooding and very wet pitch blocks which has restricted pitch preparation for this Saturday.

Metro has inspected all the cricket grounds twice since Wednesday and have made the following decision.

All Metro Adult and Youth cricket is cancelled on Saturday 14 October except for the following grades; please note the ground changes:

Premier Men

STA v LP moves to Warren 1a

BWU v ES moves to Warren 2a

Syd v Mar Har moves to Warren 3a

OBC v Ricc moves to Warren 4a

Premier Women

OBC v STA moves to Elmwood 3a

Syd v LP moves to Hag 3a

Senior A

Hals v Mp moves to Westlake 1a

Heath v LP-Add moves to Walter 1a

There have been a number of new changes to the Laws of Cricket (MCC) and these will be incorporated in all grades under the CMCA jurisdiction for the coming season starting this Saturday;

These have been presented to various captains groups and the club chairmen over the last two weeks by Matt Hill of the Canterbury Cricket Umpires and Scorers’ Association.

These changes to the Laws of Cricket will apply in ALL grades under the CMCA jurisdiction:

1. Batsman may be stumped or caught off the helmet worn by a fielder

2. Batsman may not take guard in the protected area (5 feet/1.52m from the popping crease)

3. Substitutes may wicket-keep

4. In two-day matches, players who leave the field on Day 1 for a time to the end of play must sit-out that time on Day 2

5. Lunch and Tea may be delayed by up to 30 minutes if the batting team is 9 wickets down

6. A wicket taken within 3 minutes of an interval will result in leaving the field

7. It is a no-ball if, in the act of bowling, the ball bounces twice before the popping crease

8. Byes and leg byes accrued off a no-ball will now be scored as byes/leg byes and not as additional no balls

B. The following changes to the Laws of Cricket will only apply in matches that have officially-appointed umpires:

1. Deliberate short runs will have immediate penalties without warning

2. Sharp practice in the field by faking to stop the ball in order to mislead the batsman will result in penalty runs

3. A bowler may be suspended for intentionally bowling a no ball

4. Teams may not practice (bowling) on the block without the umpire’s permission

C. The following change to the Laws of Cricket will not apply in ANY matches under the CMCA jurisdiction:

1. Player behaviour – a player may be sent off or receive penalty awards as per the new Law.

This will be dealt with through the current CMCA Code of Conduct process.
